How a 'Keto-Green' Diet Can Help You Survive Post-Menopause

**This is a guest post from my friend and colleague, Dr. Anna Cabeca. Anna worked as a gynecologist for many years and eventually developed some really unique products designed to serve her clients and support her in her own menopausal changes. Menopause is a big deal, but it doesn’t have to bring you down at all! It just requires some adjustments, and that’s especially true in our modern, toxic world. This post outlines the restorative principles in her new book, Keto-Green 16. Enjoy! Bridgit**

Post menopause can be a difficult time for most women. It is defined as that time after menopause when a woman is hopefully settling into some undeniable truths.

It is often complicated by a wide range of somewhat distressing symptoms. These include:

  • dry skin

  • decreased sex drive

  • weight gain

  • low energy levels

One of the big reasons for the appearance of these symptoms is hormones. Once a woman is postmenopausal, her estrogen, progesterone and other female sex hormones are much lower. The good news here is that these troubling symptoms can all be dealt with using the right nutritional strategies.

Though many women suffer with a variety of conditions and illnesses during this time, you can alleviate quite a few of them or at least soften their impact with good nutrition. When you think about all the illnesses that postmenopausal women face, you’ll quickly want to find the best ways to avoid them if at all possible. A few of those include anxiety, depression, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, sexual health problems and several others. But it’s not all bad news here.

Keto-Green 16 Can Help

Your postmenopausal years can be a glorious time of rediscovering yourself and moving into a more healthy lifestyle. As we age, this is especially important. One of the best ways to accomplish this is with my Keto-Green diet. I’ll show you everything you need to know in my new book Keto-Green 16. This is a 16-day program that helps you shed some of those unwanted pounds. In addition, you’ll feel better than you have in years, with energy to spare each day.

I combine ketogenic nutrition and alkaline dieting in an amazing way that helps to balance your hormones and gets you feeling on top of the world again. Ready to take a closer look at the benefits of Keto-Green 16?

Keto-Green Fights Osteoporosis

Eating alkaline foods, particularly vegetables, increases bone density, protecting you from osteoporosis. There are lots of studies that support this. A 2011 study from researchers in Seoul, Korea, involved postmenopausal Korean women who had osteoporosis. It found that post-menopausal women who ate a vegetable-rich diet had better bone density.

Keto-Green Restores Postmenopausal Hormonal Health

Since post menopause is that time when a woman no longer produces adequate estrogen and progesterone, it can sometimes feel like your life is out of control. You’re irritable, you gain weight too easily—your overall health can suffer. But Keto-Green can help. It reduces insulin circulating in the body by lowering your carbs. Once you take care of insulin resistance, you can say good-bye to hot flashes, weight gain, and other ugly symptoms.

With higher cortisol, we usually see more belly fat during post menopause. Your blood sugar levels may be higher than normal and this can lead to insulin resistance. Elevated glucose levels tell your brain that you’re hungry when you may not be. This leads to overeating. If your glucose levels remain high, then this can lead to insomnia, memory fog, high blood pressure, and immune system suppression. My Keto-Green diet includes some wholesome foods like fresh vegetables, green leafy vegetables and lean meats and fish that help with those things

Keto-Green Gets Hormones in Balance

This is another big step in the right direction. Cortisol, insulin and oxytocin must be in balance in order for progesterone, estrogen and testosterone to have a healthy balance. Though it seems like a big task, I can help you achieve balance and harmony in your body so you’ll experience less moodiness. You’ll suddenly be able to lose weight and you’ll have plenty of energy. My new book goes into depth about how the Keto-Green 16 plan gets all these hormones operating in sync.

Keto-Green Protects Your Cardiovascular System

There are so many studies that show the damage an acidic diet can do. When we eat lots of meat, cheese, refined sugar and processed carbs, we damage our cardiovascular system. Think of it as acid rain, falling from the sky, eating away at stone, metal and paint. Acidosis irritates and inflames body tissue. It damages cell membranes, even the interiors of blood vessels and heart. Over time, this process weakens the heart and vessels. They break down too soon and now you’ve got high blood pressure and heart problems.

Switching to the alkaline Keto-Green 16 diet protects your heart. Keto-Green 16 is an excellent diet for anyone in their postmenopausal years when the risk of cardiovascular disease is greater.

Keto-Green Improves Mood

Postmenopausal women often complain about moodiness. Sometimes they feel good but many days are blue; they feel listless. Depression and anxiety are common complaints. These stem from low oxytocin, high cortisol, and low estrogen. But there’s a lot you can do to stop this process and get your emotions under control.

Keto-Green Avoids Refined Sugar

This is one food that typically has no nutrition at all. One popular soft drink has 16 spoons of sugar in it. Your body will struggle to process it.

Eat foods with high levels of omega-3 fatty acids. This includes nuts, tuna, sardines, salmon, anchovies and others. Probiotic foods are great as well. These include yogurt, kimchi, and sauerkraut. These foods promote a healthy gut.

Managing Stress

I also believe it’s important for all of us to manage our stress better. Stress can be so damaging but there are lots of ways to get it under control.

  • Try taking a walk each day.

  • Meditation is also a great way to manage stress.

  • Take up a new hobby, something relaxing like painting, pottery making or even quilting. Lots of people are re-learning the joys of skills like quilting. Join a quilting club and meet some new people.

  • Volunteering can be rewarding, as well. Volunteer at a local children’s hospital or food pantry.

Once we get our stress levels under control, the rest is so much easier.
