Hormone-Balancing Seed Porridge

Hormone-Balancing-Seed-Porridge.png

This easy, nourishing porridge is inspired by the Paleo breakfast cereals available at high-end health food stores.

These products, while delicious, are typically spendy. They are also probably rancid by the time they reach the consumer, as the oils in seeds and nuts are very fragile (especially when ground).

Thankfully, it’s simple to make your own seed-and-nut-based cold or hot cereal. You’ll grind your own seeds to order, using either a high-powered blender or a clean coffee grinder.

This is a breakfast I made up based on some paleo breakfast cereals I had tried. These packaged paleo cereals were tasty but A. I worried they might be ranci...

Grinding seeds improves both the texture of the porridge and your body’s ability to digest it.

Ground sesame and sunflower seeds form the base of the cereal. From there, get creative by adding your own personalized blend of seeds, nuts, fruit, sweeteners, and spices.

We chose chia seeds, hemp seeds, pecans, shredded coconut, and blueberries, but feel free to customize the recipe based on what you have on hand!

This might be a more filling breakfast than you’re used to, as it’s quite rich in high-quality fats, vitamins, and minerals. This combination helps mitigate mid-morning blood sugar crashes. Even better, some research indicates that a high-fat, low-carb breakfast can help improve metabolic health over time. (1)

If you’re in search of natural remedies for hormone imbalance, this recipe is designed to complement a seed cycling protocol. Seed cycling is a natural and accessible way to use superfoods like flax, sesame, pumpkin, and sunflower seeds to support and balance your hormonal cycle. You can read all about seed cycling here.
