Preparing for the Year of the Fire Horse
I have been mildly fascinated by Chinese astrology for some time, and this year I dug a little deeper.
The Chinese Zodiac has a 12 year cycle, each year corresponding to a different animal, along with a rotation of the 5 elements, making a 60-year cycle in total.
This year we are wrapping up the year of the wood snake, and moving into the year of the fire horse.
The Chinese new year will happen Feb 17, 2026, but it’s time to start thinking about closing out one energy to ready for the next!
The Year of the Wood Snake
The snake is about shedding the old. It’s about introspection, growth and transformation.
Like a snake, the mood is independent, flexible and strategic.
Wood energy is strong, adaptable and growth-oriented as well.
But come this winter, it’s time for action, baby!
The Year of the Fire Horse
A horse is powerful, confident, courageous and unstoppable.
The fire energy adds extra passion and heat! Fire can burn down the old, but it can also burn you out.
So how can you take advantage of this changing energy? Read on!
Optimizing Your Feng Shui
Feng Shui literally means wind and water, but it also is a system of order, flow, ritual, symbolism and aesthetics for prosperity.
Here are some tips to go max on this season:
Journal on the Year that’s Closing
a. Start with what you did well in 2025.
What did you navigate? What did you create? Who did you support?
b. Next reflect on situations, habits or mindsets that brought you down.
Gossip? One-sided friendships? Late-night binging?
2. Plan the Year Ahead
Remember the snake is about cool planning. What do you want for yourself for 2025?
Consider the various areas of your life: physical, spiritual, career, community, etc
Plan now so you harness your fire horse energy!
3. Put Out the Old
Clutter and unused objects gotta go. This is holding on to the old and stressing your nervous system to even see.
Especially say goodbye to items related to ways of being that you are releasing. Think: old gifts from exes, synthetic clothes that constrict you, etc
4. Cleanse and Beautify
Wash your windows, sweep your front steps.
Consider red, orange and gold flowers and decor.
Could you find, print or paint an image of a horse? It’s suggested that the horse points into the house, so its energy doesn’t run off!
5. Celebrate with Loved Ones
Honor your ancestors, call your far-away family, and host a feast for your family and friends.
Give thanks for your blessings, and they will multiply!
