How Biocidin Toothpaste and Mouthwash Can Help Your Microbiome and Dental Infections

For the last several years, the microbiome in your gut has stolen the show when it comes to overall health. However, many people are now paying attention to the place where gut health begins: the mouth. Everything about your digestive tract is connected, from your mouth all the way to the intestines and gut.

It may shock you to learn that 47% of American adults over the age of 30 have some form of periodontitis. (1) Dental infections are a common problem. This is mostly the result of lifestyle choices and major events such as:

  • Diets high in refined carbs

  • Smoking

  • Immune suppression

  • Pregnancy

There are more than 700 species of bacteria that can live and thrive in the mouth. Most people have an average of just under 300, and it is important to make sure that you have more good flora than bad so you don’t develop dental infections.

How does your oral health influence your overall health? Find out more about how leaky gut and leaky mouth impact your health and the solutions I’ve found for these issues.

Leaky Mouth, Dental Infections, and Related Diseases

We get so many members of our community asking for solutions for oral infections! Much of the time, oral issues are related to infections and something that we term as ‘gingival epithelium permeability,’ or, in more common terms, ‘leaky mouth’, or ‘leaky gums.’

What is leaky mouth? This phenomenon is similar to the more well-known leaky gut, except it happens in your mouth instead of in your gut. It involves bacteria imbalances, dental infections and other issues that allow unwanted items (such as toxins, bacteria, etc.) to enter your bloodstream through your mouth and gums.

While I’m not a dentist, I can share that these issues are a concern for overall health, not to mention oral health issues like cavities and gum disease.

These oral infections can lead to a host of issues, including:

  • Leaky gut: Since you are constantly swallowing, your oral microbiome rapidly ends up in your gut and can lead to a host of gut-related problems in no time. This is why oral health is so important for maintaining gut health. (Watch our video interview for more on this.)

  • Heart disease: In one study recently conducted and published by the Journal of Dental Research, an undetected tooth infection increases the risk of heart disease by 2.7 percent. (2)

  • Candida: Many people are plagued by Candida infection, the fungal infection caused by yeast. It can thrive in the mouth and gut when left to its own devices, but there is more that you could be doing to prevent it. For example, brushing after meals (three times each day) shows a dramatic reduction of Candida in stool levels. (3)

  • Autoimmune disease: In another revolutionary study, Swedish researchers found that poor oral hygiene markers such as high plaque index were closely linked to the development of autoimmune diseases. The study was conducted over a thirty-year period, proving how important oral health can be over the course of a lifetime. (4)

Getting Rid of the Bad Bugs

As I have come to realize just how important oral health is for whole-body health, I have been researching what we can do to get rid of these bag bugs that are causing infections and problems.

If you’ve been following me very long, you may have heard me talk about Biocidin and how I love to use it for gut infections.  Biocidin is a natural botanical blend with antiviral, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties that can really support your immune system.

Biocidin is good to use for healing gut infections, so it follows that it can help heal your mouth as well. One of the many liquid Biocidin benefits is that it is a biofilm disruptor, effectively breaking up plaque.

As you have already seen, it is important to make sure that plaque and other forms of biofilm do not build up on the teeth. Too much of the wrong kind of bacteria in the mouth can have serious consequences for the rest of the body.

How Does Biocidin Work for Dental Infections?

I love Biocidin because it is effective and contains many natural ingredients that have been proven to support excellent oral health and a healthy immune system.

People often ask me questions about Biocidin, so I’ll answer the most common ones below:

  • Does Biocidin kill good bacteria too? Fortunately, research supporting the use of the active ingredients in these products in the amounts suggested hasn’t shown a significant reduction in good gut flora. I don’t recommend following a high-dose protocol of herbal antibiotics for a long period of time (unless you are dealing with Lyme, etc, and working with a practitioner). But short-term usage is beneficial. I always recommend that any gut protocol be paired with a good probiotic.
From Biocidin: A large study being conducted in the Netherlands using Biocidin® for dysbiosis is showing improved microbiome diversity and numbers of beneficial organisms without addition of probiotics. When the final results of this study are published, we’ll update here! (See this page for Biocidin FAQs, including one about good gut bacteria.)

  • Does Biocidin contain harmful ingredients? Biocidin is free from many common, harmful ingredients such as sugar, gluten, fluoride, and artificial colors and flavors.

  • How do the ingredients in Biocidin work? There is no large quantity of any one particular ingredient but rather a blend of many different natural ingredients that creates such a powerful alternative to many store-bought solutions. Below I will walk you through some of the top ingredients of Biocidin and how they work.

Bilberry Extract to Reduce Inflammation

Bilberry extract is the most prominent ingredient in the popular Biocidin toothpaste line. It should come as no surprise because scientists have known for years that the bioactive molecules in these berries reduce the risk of certain oral diseases. Taking bilberry supplements reduces the levels of inflammation associated with gingivitis and decreases pro-inflammatory levels of cytokines that can make conditions worse. (5)

Garlic to Fight Infections

One of the more promising ingredients in the Biocidin liquid is garlic. Garlic has been studied extensively compared to other ingredients such as chlorhexidine mouthwash, and it has been proven to have similar effects. Research shows that garlic is a great natural alternative for patients who need some help fighting infection in mouth without the side effects that can accompany other types of mouthwash. Garlic has been shown to have no side effects. (6)

Tea Tree Oil for Inflammation and Gum Disease

Essential oils can pack a powerful punch when it comes to fighting periodontitis in the mouth. In one study, researchers looked at a conventional approach to severe chronic periodontitis (scaling and root planing) versus the same approach with the addition of a tea tree oil gel. At the end of the study, the results revealed that patients who received the tea tree oil gel had a significant reduction in the markers that indicated their periodontitis.

Not only was it effective at treating the infection, tea tree oil was also found to work as an anti-inflammatory ingredient. The tissues that were once inflamed and sore were found to be less so with the routine application of the tea tree oil, further convincing researchers that this ingredient holds a lot of promise for treating oral conditions. (7)

Oregano Oil for Combating Bacteria

Among the collection of essential oils that are a part of the Biocidin ingredients, oregano oil also stands out. Research has shown that oregano oil is proven to kill multi-drug resistant bacteria in burn wounds, and it can do the same in the mouth. (8) When tested in mice, it had no side effects while still remaining highly effective at combating bacteria.

Clove Oil for Pain, Inflammation, and Bacterial Infection

Clove oil is a great addition to the Biocidin drops found in the Dentalcidin toothpaste and mouth rinse. This essential oil has a great flavor that rivals that of many popular toothpastes. Unlike these store-bought versions that often have harsh chemicals or fluoride inside their brightly-colored tubes, clove oil is beneficial for every aspect of your oral health. It is known to relieve pain, reduce inflammation and tackle bacterial infections all at the same time. (9)

Myrrh Oil for Healing and Rebuilding

Myrrh is becoming a more popular ingredient among oral care products and for good reason. One study conducted already demonstrated that it can be great for healing wounds within the mouth. On test subjects, an incision was made in the mouth and then irrigated with either myrrh, chlorhexidine gluconate, or tetracycline-based mouthwash. Myrrh promoted greater healing and repaired more damaged tissue when compared with the other mouth rinses. (10)

Because periodontitis consists of inflamed gum tissue, myrrh oil could be a key ingredient for moving toward better oral health.

Better Oral Health, Better Gut Health

Is it time for you to give your body the reset that it needs to function well? I have found Biocidin to be an amazing ally in the fight for a better microbiome, both in the gut and in your mouth. Improve your immune system and reset your gut microbiome with a little help from Biocidin and the products that contain this important and revolutionary component.

Below I’ll outline my favorite Biocidin products and their companions like GI Detox.

Dentalcidin

The Dentalcidin toothpaste is a broad-spectrum product that is safe for use in both children and adults. It contains 20 percent of the revolutionary Biocidin ingredients (outlined above) that can help to reverse periodontitis and improve the health of your mouth and gut. This toothpaste is good for you and tastes great too (even my son loves it).

To use: One pump should be enough to give you a healthy amount to brush your teeth. The flavor is very mild and tube lasts a long time.

Dentalcidin LS Mouthwash

If you need more help than just toothpaste, you might want to try the concentrated mixture found in the Dentalcidin LS mouth rinse. This is also based on the Biocidin formula, but it contains extra ingredients to help support the tissues of your mouth, reduce inflammation, and speed up the reparation process.

To use: All you need to do is add a pump to the tongue and swish it around your mouth for 3-5 minutes. You may add water as necessary. Most people see results from using the mouthwash in just 4-8 weeks. However, some people with long-term autoimmune issues such as Lyme disease may need to use this treatment long-term. Once you move on to a maintenance dose, you can use this more flexibly instead of a daily use.

GI Detox

GI Detox can help to bind up toxins including metals and unwanted microbial by-products that are formed within the body. Much like Biocidin, it also helps to breakdown biofilm and improve oral health. (Learn more about binders like G.I. Detox here.)

To use: It is best used in combination with Biocidin or other detox techniques to help avoid adverse reactions from detoxification as your body tries to get rid of the toxins its releasing. (Visit this page for more specific instructions.)

Biocidin Liquid

If you need a more serious product for systemic or gut infections, you might want to consider using the Biocidin liquid directly in addition to the toothpaste and mouthwash. Research indicates that this product can treat very resistant cases of imbalanced terrain, including mold, Candida and bacterial infections.

To use: To prevent a detoxification type of reaction, most experts recommend using it in combination with the G.I. Detox (mentioned above). For example, you could take the Biocidin liquid before breakfast and then take G.I. Detox a few hours after breakfast to help clean up any toxins that may have been released. It’s important to take G.I. Detox one or two hours after food or medications, as this binder will bind to the nutrients as well!
