Learn How Traditional Olive Leaf Extract Cures and Supports Immunity

Everyone dreads getting sick during cold and flu season! But, as often as you try to wash your hands and avoid sick people, it’s still easy to catch a virus that can knock you flat on your back. When germs are being passed around, it’s important to do everything you can to support your immune system.

Luckily, there are natural supplements that you can take to help your body fight off nasty bugs so you don’t get sick. Olive Leaf Extract is a supplement that you should definitely be using during the winter months to support your immune health and stay healthy all winter long. Let me show you how!

Why Take an Olive Leaf Supplement?

A natural product of the Olea europea tree, Olive Leaf Extract is known for its antiviral and antibacterial properties. Health practitioners have been using it for many years to help fight infections (including bacterial and viral infections), improve the immune response, combat inflammation, and to help with gastrointestinal issues like diarrhea. (1)

Olive Leaf Extract is a go-to supplement for natural health specialists because it’s incredibly effective. It has wide-ranging, positive effects for many health issues, immune support in particular.

Many recent scientific studies have shed light on why Olive Leaf Extract works so well to support your immune system.

Olive Leaf Extract Is Antimicrobial

Olive Leaf Extract has antimicrobial properties. It has been shown to fight the growth of many species of bacteria, including:

  • Campylobacter jejuni—a major cause of food poisoning (2)

  • Helicobacter pylori—the cause of some stomach ulcers (2)

  • Staphylococcus aureus (“staph”)causes infections of the skin and soft tissue and pneumonia; infections can lead to more serious health issues like sepsis (2)

  • MRSA—a specific form of S. aureus that is a growing health threat because it does not respond to common antibiotics (2)

  • Escherichia coli (E. coli)—a bacterium that can cause diarrhea, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, and other bacterial infections (3)

  • Salmonella typhimurium—infection can result in fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and other gastrointestinal problems (4)

Olive Leaf Extract can also kill pathogenic fungi such as Candida albicans, the primary cause of yeast infections and thrush. (5)

Olive Leaf Extract Combats Viruses

If you’re worried about staying healthy during cold and flu season, Olive Leaf Extract can also help fight viruses. (6)

When you feel under the weather in the winter with a runny nose and a mild to moderate sore throat, chances are you’ve caught a virus. Viruses are just about everywhere in the winter because we spend so much time indoors close to other people. We breathe the same air and touch the same surfaces. It’s very easy for viruses to be spread from person to person when we’re so close to each other.

So, to fight viruses naturally and stay healthy, you need natural supplements that will fight viruses, like an olive leaf supplement.

Olive Leaf Extract contains many compounds that are antimicrobial. One of those compounds, oleuropein, has been studied in detail because it’s so good at fighting viruses. For example, research has shown that oleuropein can effectively fight RSV (respiratory syncytial virus, a virus that results in the hospitalization of 57,000 babies and young children in the US each year) and parainfluenza type 3 virus (a common cause of viral respiratory illness that can also cause pneumonia). (7, 8)

Viruses like RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) and parainfluenza type 3 are incredibly widespread during the winter months. These viruses can make you sick year-round, but you’re more likely to catch them during the traditional flu season, from late fall to early spring. Unfortunately, there currently isn’t a vaccine for RSV, parainfluenza type 3, the common cold, and many cold-like viruses.

So, if you want to stay healthy, taking an olive leaf supplement is a smart move. It will help support your immune system, and you’ll get all of the antimicrobial benefits of the Olive Leaf Extract, too.

Olive Leaf Extract Helps with Epstein Barr Virus (EBV)

Olive Leaf Extract has also been used to treat viruses that cause chronic illnesses. For example, Olive Leaf Extract may be effective at treating viruses that are associated with extreme fatigue like Epstein-Barr. (9) It has also been shown to kill herpes viruses. (9) One study has even suggested that Olive Leaf Extract may inhibit infection and transmission of the HIV virus. (10)

I have chronic Epstein Barr virus, and winter is my most challenging time. Fortunately I discovered Olive Leaf Extract to manage my EBV. I pair it with colloidal silver and vitamin D for an added immune boost.

This combination keeps my symptoms for flaring up in the winter, along with avoiding sugar and using a sauna or hot bath. You can read more about this below.

How Should You Use Olive Leaf Extract?

What form to use: Using Olive Leaf Extract is incredibly easy with the right olive leaf supplement. Although there are several ways to take Olive Leaf Extract, including making a tincture or brewing a tea using olive leaves, the simplest is using Olive Leaf Extract capsules. With capsules, it’s as simple as opening a bottle, grabbing a glass of water, and getting in the daily Olive Leaf Extract you need to stay healthy and virus-free.

Dosage: The number of capsules you need to take daily will depend on the supplement you’re using. Usually you’ll take two to four capsules each day. If you’re unsure how much you should be taking, consult your doctor. And make sure you talk to your doctor if you’re taking other medications, especially if you take medication to stabilize your blood sugar or if you’re on blood pressure medication. If possible, take your Olive Leaf Extract supplement with food.

When Should You Use Olive Leaf Extract?

You can begin to take it whenever you’re experiencing symptoms that you would like to treat. For example, if your throat is starting to feel scratchy or if you’re just feeling a little under the weather, grab your Olive Leaf Extract supplement and start to take it daily. When you begin to take it at the first sign of a cold or other virus, you’ll be more likely to nip the infection in the bud.

You can also use Olive Leaf Extract preventatively and take it every day, either during flu season or year-round. If you find yourself coming down with colds quite frequently, if you have Epstein Barr Virus, if you are often around small children, or if you spend a lot of time around people, you should consider taking Olive Leaf Extract every day. It’s a great supplement to take prophylactically because it does so much to support the immune system.

The Most Effective Olive Leaf Extract Supplement

If you’re looking for a high-quality, highly effective Olive Leaf Extract supplement, check out the capsules I chose to put in my shop. This is the one that I love to take for my own EBV.

Our Olive Leaf Concentrate is made using methods that preserve all of the active compounds in the olive leaf. That means you get all of the benefits of olive leaf extract in every single dose. And, the Olive Leaf Concentrate is standardized so every capsule contains 20% oleuropein, the germ-fighting compound that will support your immune system all winter long.

If you want your Olive Leaf Extract to be even more effective, pair it with other supplements that support your immune system. I recommend pairing Olive Leaf Concentrate with a Colloidal Silver and Vitamin D supplement for enhanced protection from viruses. (11)

Silver Spray: How to Pair with Olive Leaf Extract

Like Olive Leaf Extract, colloidal silver also has natural antimicrobial properties. (12) Silver ions attack enzymes embedded in the cell membranes of microbes, resulting in their death. (13) Silver can also be used to kill viruses or prevent them from growing in the body, including the influenza virus. (14, 15) In fact, in my practice I use a Silver Spray to help treat and suppress the Epstein-Barr virus. (12

Silver Spray is a natural complement to Olive Leaf Extract because they both attack foreign microbes in the body, but they work in different ways. When they are used together, they’re very effective at supporting healthy immune function.

Vitamin D: How to Pair with Olive Leaf Extract

Vitamin D is incredibly important to our bodies, but unfortunately most of us are vitamin D deficient. (16) You can read my blog on vitamin D deficiency here.

Vitamin D directly affects the immune system, helping to regulate the immune response. The active form of vitamin D directly interacts with many types of immune cells, including T-lymphocytes, B-lymphocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, and monocytes. (17) It helps to activate the cells that directly fight pathogens, stimulating the immune system to fight foreign invaders. (18) If you’re vitamin D deficient, you’re more susceptible to infection. (19)

If you want to stay healthy and enhance your immune system, you need to make sure you’re getting enough vitamin D. A high-quality vitamin D supplement can help you keep your immune system in the best shape possible.
